Men have been playing bocce on the courts at GMR for as long as any of us can remember, just never in an organized league - until 2011!
In answer to the Women's Bocce League that began in two years earlier the men have started a league of
their own.
League Rules:
- Minimum of 3 players per team (minimum age of 16 years-old)
- Registration is $50 per player
- Every player must be a registered member of the Croatian Sports and Community Centre of Hamilton
- Teams will be registered on a first come, first served basis until league is full
- Deadline to register a team is May 29, 2011
- Team fee must be submitted in full with registration paid by June 9, 2011
- League will begin on Monday, June 13
- League will run on Monday and Thursday nights during the summer months at the bocce facilities at 166 Green Mountain Road
- Games will be played until one team reaches 16 points
- Each team will play two games per night starting at 6:30 p.m.
- All communication from league convener will be sent via The Forum or email unless otherwise indicated
- If no one on the team has email access, only then will they be contacted via telephone
- All games will
allow for a MAXIMUM of a 5 minute time period to start late; if team
does not show up in time, the opposing team earns the win
- It is the responsibility of each team to keep track of scores
- If you throw a ball out of turn and no other balls were harmed you can
get your ball back; if other balls that are
already in play were touched then your team loses two points and you walk
to the other end and start that round over again; if your team
has zero or one at the time of the infraction the other team gains two points
- Minimum of two team members must play - substitutes are not allowed
- Teams that consistently use 2 players (to their
advantage) will be dealt with by the league convener as this can be
viewed as cheating
- Teams need to have 3 players at least, with most
games having everyone in attendance
- In case of playoffs only original (registered) team members may play
- In the event of rain, missed games will be rescheduled
- If a team is not able to attend any games, and does not notify the
opposing team contact person within a minimum of 48 hrs prior to game
time, two points will be deducted from overall points
- Each team
that wins will be awarded two points. In the event of a tie in the
standings, we will determine team rankings via head to head
- If a team forfeits two games, they will be dropped from league
- All balls thrown will be counted as in play (regardless of touching
boards) as long as player releases the ball behind the hash-line
- Balls must remain within lane
- Any dispute with respect to
measurement or ties must be re-measured by third party or agreed upon by
majority of players on both teams
- Distance will be measured from edge of bulin to the centre of the large ball
- Team to throw first bulin of match will be determined by rock/paper/scissors
- Each bulin throw thereafter is to be thrown by winning team of last round
- All final match scores must be registered in the logbook (provided at the match)
- Bulin must be tossed further than the half way point of the court and
no further than the first hash mark of the other end of the court
- Each
team is given two opportunities to toss the bulin
- If you do not toss the
bulin properly the first OR second time the other team is given the bulin to toss
